Humayun’s tomb is one of the noteworthy examples of the Mughal architecture. It was built by Humayun’s senior widow Haji Begam. The tomb is believed to be the first established idea of garden-tomb which was later followed by many other tombs such as the Taj Mahal at Agra. Several rulers of the Mughal dynasty are buried in the tomb. The garden of the tomb is remarkable which shows the obsession of the Mughals towards gardens. The tomb also has a clear view of Jama Masjid and Qutab Minar.

The main gate of the tomb consists of square enclosure with Humayun’s tomb at the centre. The tomb is on a stone platform. There are water channels on each side of the platform. These channels were used to water the plants in the garden. Visiting Humayun’s tomb is a best example to experience the Mughal architecture.

There are sufficient accommodation facilities for the people who like to stay overnight. There are many hotels in Delhi.

The nearest airport is Delhi international airport and the nearest railway station is Nizamuddin railway station. Delhi is easily accessible by roads from all parts of India.

The pulse of the nation can be felt in its capital. Delhi has the power within to creep into the minds of people who have seen her at least once. Respect, honor and glory imprinted in every stone. The city has witnessed several battles, victory, glory and honor.

The entire New Delhi is worth watching. The city is filled with ancient relics and modern architectural masterpieces- a unique blend of old and new. the Qutab Minar, The Red Fort, Humanyun’s Tomb, the Juma Masjid, India gate, India Parliament, President’s house and Bahai Lotus temple are just a few of the marvelous galore of architectural classics. Apart from the city sight seeing we can also spend time in exploring the city life in the metro’s landmark like Connaught place market, south extension and several malls in the city. The city is always perfect for some quick shopping

The capital city is well connected to all parts of the country by air, rail and road. There are city hotels in all range for over night stay.

The India Gate, known as the ‘All India War Memorial’ is a well known monument. The structure was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens and is situated in the heart of the city. It was built to honour the 90,000 soldiers who died in World War I. The canopy now vacant had a statue of King George V. The statue was moved to Coronation Park then.

The India Gate is 42 metre tall and many important roads spread out from it.

Now under the arch, burns the ‘Amar Jyoti’ marks the tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

It is a black marble commemorative plaque with a rifle placed reminds the soldiers who lost their lives in the War. It’s not only a structural icon but also reflects the spirit of the nation.

Delhi has an international airport. The nearest railhead is New Delhi. Being the capital city Delhi is well connected by roads from all parts of India.

Delhi has a wide range of business class hotels, resorts, boutique hotels and it is pretty economic

It’s little wonder that an ancient city like Delhi should also have, among its many modern malls, a market over 350 years old. When Delhi replaced Agra as the Mughal capital, emperor Shahjahan’s daughter Jahanara conceived this market to spread out just outside the Red Fort.

Today, it’s a busy shopping place with high congestion levels in the main road and all the bylanes that branch off on both sides. Some of these like the Paranthe Wale Gali are as famous as Chandni Chowk itself – renowned for the tiny eating joints that produce a mind-boggling variety of parathas, and popular since generations attracting celebrities and the common man alike. Most shops are into textile and exquisite clothing.

With both the Red Fort and the Jama Masjid in close vicinity, Chandni Chowk abounds with places of worship like the Digambar Jain temple, the Fatehpuri Mosque, the Sunehri Masjid and Gurudwara Shish Ganj. The area also is a treasure trove of heritage monuments with several havelis, now in a sad state of disrepair. Part of Delhi-6, as its known by its pincode, Chandni Chowk is also well known for the many kuchas and katras that are so intrinsic to the area. Karim’s the legendary eatery near the Jama Masjid was set up by the Mughal emperor’s own master chef.

Of late, there have been efforts to restore some of the old glory of Chandni Chowk. An important development was the advent of the superb Delhi Metro which made it easier to access the area and help in decongestion of traffic to an extent. Now, also on the cards, is an ambitious scheme by the Delhi Government to beautify and restore this gem of the city’s great heritage.

This museum was the former residence of Indira Gandhi at 1 Safdarjang Rd. It displays some of her personal effects, including the sari she was wearing at the time of her assassination.

It’s a simple white bungalow where the great leader Mrs. Gandhi lived as prime minister of India. It was here in the gardens of this bungalow that her two bodyguards assassinated her on October 31st 1984. The bungalow was later converted into a memorial museum.

It has a beautiful collection of photographs covering the Nationalist movement and personal and public life of Nehru-Gandhi family. The collection gives a visual narration of her life from childhood to her last days.

The museum also contains the personal exhibits of her son Rajeev Gandhi including the burnt clothes and shoes that he wore when he was assassinated in a bomb blast in May 1991. As Rajeev was himself a trained photographer, the museum houses some of his best photographs covering some good times of his life.

The museum is very popular among the tourists especially the domestic ones who in a way pay tribute to their leaders who sacrificed their life for their country.

The instrument is intended to measure the time of day, correct to half a second, and declination of the Sun and the other heavenly bodies.

Jantar Mantar is a major landmark of Delhi and a unique building. It is an observatory built by Sawai Jai Singh II.

The Jantar Mantar is not only a timekeeper of celestial bodies: it also tells a lot about the technological achievements under the Rajput kings and their endeavor to unravel the mysteries pertaining to astronomy. It is a remarkable structure which consists of fourteen geometric devices used for measuring time, forecasting weather changes, predicting behavior of planets and finding extraterrestrial altitude.

Laxmi Narayan temple is one of the first major Hindu places of worship that allowed the lower caste Harijans inside. In fact, Mahatma Gandhi made entry of Harijans as one of the conditions for inaugurating the temple. The main shrine of the temple is dedicated to Lord Narayan and Goddess Lakshmi.

The Geeta Bhavan, a hall is adorned with beautiful paintings depicting scenes from Indian mythology. The entire complex, especially the walls and the upper gallery are full of paintings carried out by artists from Jaipur in Rajasthan. The rear of the temple has been developed as an artificial mountainous landscape with fountains and waterfalls. The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated here with much goodwill and cheer. The exterior is faced with the white marble and red sandstone typical of Delhi‘s Mughal architecture.
